Motorcyclist Fatality –Newlands/ Horokiwi Wellington
Police in Wellington are currently investigating the death of a male motorcyclist which occurred in Horokiwi, Wellington at around 4.25 pm this afternoon (Wednesday 13 January).
The motorcyclist was first observed by police speeding in a southbound lane of State Highway One near to the suburb of Tawa.
Officers attempted to get the motorcyclist to stop, but he failed to comply. Police followed the motorcyclist for a very short period of time (a matter of a few minutes) before losing sight of him in dense traffic.
The motorcycle was discovered a short time later in the Newlands/Horokiwi area of Wellington and the body of the rider was located nearby.
As is standard procedure, because police had been involved in the pursuit of the motorcycle before the body of the rider was located, the IPCA has been contacted and invited to investigate this matter.
As the matter will be subject to investigation by police and other agencies it is not appropriate for police to comment further at this time.
