A male motorcyclist has been arrested and charged with reckless driving and driving while disqualified following a short pursuit in Putaruru in South Waikato this afternoon.
The motorcyclist was initially measured by Police travelling at a speed of 136 kilometres per hour on State Highway One between Tokoroa and Putaruru. The motorcyclist was followed and stopped by Police in Putaruru, however, he rode off.
Police undertook a short pursuit, however, as the motorcyclist attempted to over-take a police car, he collided with the back of the car, coming to a stop. The Police car was travelling at 30 kilometres per hour at the time of the collision.

Senior Sergeant Fane Troy, the Taupo Area Traffic Team Leader, says he is relieved that the motorcyclist is now off the road.
"It is a privilege to travel on our roads, and speeding drivers put members of the public at risk. While this motorcyclist was clearly travelling at excessive speeds, it is not okay for anyone, at any time, to drive above the speed limit.
"There are too many serious crashes and injuries sustained on our roads as a result of speeding drivers. Crashes caused by speed are completely avoidable," says Senior Sergeant Troy.
Senior Sergeant Troy, says there are between six and 16 Police officers enforcing road safety on Taupo area roads, which include Tokoroa and Putaruru, at any one time.
"We are serious about preventing crashes and injuries on our roads, and anyone caught speeding can expect to be held accountable."
