Three car crash in Waikato

11am -- A 3-car crash has just occurred on SH1 at Horotiu, in the Waikato. 3 people are trapped; it is believed that 5 people are injured. Emergency services are responding. The south bound lane of SH1 is completely blocked and diversions are just being established from Park Road to Horotiu Road. More details to follow as they become known.

Update: An update on this crash - 3 people have been taken to Waikato Hospital, 2 of whom are status 2. The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Police Serious Crash Unit. It appears at this satge that one vehicle has crossed the centre line and collided with on-coming traffic. The road is expected to remain closed for the next hour.
