Whakatane Police arrest two men in relation to Edgecumbe aggravated robbery

WHAKATANE

Whakatane Police have arrested and charged two men in relation to the aggravated robbery of a service station in Edgecumbe on Sunday January 17. The pair also face charges in relation to firing at a Police Officer following the robbery.

One male is aged 33 years, while the second is aged 20 years. Both are from Kawerau. They are currently charged with Aggravated Robbery and Using a Firearm against a Police Officer.

Both men will appear in the Whakatane District Court on Wednesday 20 January, 2010.

The officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Sergeant Ross Everest says a third person is still being sought, and Police enquires are continuing in relation to the identity of the third offender.

Detective Sergeant Everest says information received from the public has been a significant help in assisting with the apprehension of the two offenders arrested so far.

He says Police are still keen to hear from anyone who may have further information relating to this incident, and he urges anyone with information to contact the Whakatane Police Station on 07 3085255.
