City water returning to normal after lightning strike
Water supplies are returning to normal after a lightning strike damaged the city’s water treatment plant early today.
The electrical storm over Hamilton happened about midnight damaging computers and alarm systems at the Peacockes Rd plant.
The plant provides all of the city’s fresh water supply.
Many residents phoned council to report they were experiencing low pressure, and in extreme cases, a total loss of water supply.
Council water engineers have been fixing the problem this morning and carrying out testing.
Residents in Hillcrest and Flagstaff areas are particularly affected.
“Water supplies are all back on line, but there may be some minor water quality issues,” said Tim Harty, manager of City Waters.
