Critical crash near Waihi

9am - Police are attending to a motor vehicle which has rolled on the road along SH 2 Katikati and Waihi near the Athenree gorge.

The female driver is trapped in the vehicle and Fire are also in attendance. Her injuries are categrised as critical and will be taken to Tauranga hospital.

Half of the highway is closed off with north bound traffic being redirected through Waihi Beach. South bound traffic continues to flow with a very low speed restriction.

Delays are expected for up to an hour before the scene of the accident is cleared up.
