Operation Edgewater - Murder Investigation Continues

Police say the number of specialist staff and investigators involved in the search for the killer of Auckland taxi driver Hiren MOHINI is already at thirty.

Mr MOHINI was driving his cab in View Road Mount Eden at about 1.23am on Sunday 31 January 2010 when he crashed into a tree. He died at the scene.

Officer in charge of Operation Edgewater Detective Senior Sergeant Hywel Jones says the deceased died as the result of multiple stab wounds inflicted by a person presently unknown.

“It was a frenzied attack,” said Mr Jones.

“A large team of specialists is now working on this enquiry and the search for the weapon used to murder the deceased father of two is intensifying. Investigators are back in View Road Mount Eden today to carry out an area canvas of the area and talk to residents and others in the suburban locality.”

“There are a large number of witnesses to interview not only from the street where the murder happened but also other locations such as the CBD where a male suspect is believed to have hired the cab driven by the deceased.”

“We are accessing security surveillance footage from a number of locations and working on some strong leads that will assist us to locate the killer.”

“This is a complex murder investigation.”

“Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the deceased and we extend our genuine condolences to all who are close to the late Mr Hiren MOHINI,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Hywel Jones.
