Ever wondered what’s making headlines in New York? What about the lead story in the Shanghai Daily or perhaps the latest scandal to hit front pages in the UK?

Now, thanks to the new PressDisplay online database at Hutt City libraries you can read more than 1400 newspapers from 83 countries in 39 languages, published in their original format and layout, including full text and images. Articles can also be translated to 12 languages and you can search for news articles, images and regular features across hundreds of newspapers.

Libraries manager Sandra Mann is excited about offering people another opportunity to stay up to date with the latest news from around the world.

“We have many regular library visitors from different parts of the world and PressDisplay will allow them to easily keep up with news and developments back home – and it’s free,” she says.

PressDisplay is the latest addition to Hutt City libraries already impressive list of online resources. Whether it’s for homework, business or a hobby, library members can access millions more articles, images and maps from magazines, books and online publications across the world.

“We subscribe to quality information sources where individuals may not be able to and make it available for the city’s benefit.”

Library members can access these online resources any time at www.library.huttcity.govt.nz or in the library from any of the 162 Connect computers. They just type in the barcode from their library card and they’re ready to browse.
