Arrest following Armed Offender Squad callout in Opotiki

A 37 year-old Opotiki man will face a number charges, including assault with a weapon, as a result of an AOS call out this morning in Opotiki.

Detective Senor Sergeant Greg Standen says the incident was dealt with swiftly with the use of police dogs and the AOS, with no firearms being involved.

"The safety of residents in the immediate area was at no time compromised, with police being the only people approached by the offender."

The arrested man will appear in the Whakatane District Court tomorrow (Saturday 13 February), where his custody status is likely to be assessed.
