BULLS

A search and rescue was launched yesterday afternoon (Saturday) after a 10-year-old girl was reported lost in the Amazing Maze 'n Maize near Sanson.

The girl was rescued after she had fallen into a drain. Covered in mud, she managed to get out of the drain and was spotted by a local.

UPDATE

Facts supplied by Hamish Williams, manager at the Amazing Maze 'n' Maize.

1) All customers are provided with rules when tickets are purchased. The main rule being keep on the track within the maze.
2) In this scenario the child involved was deaf and could not talk.
3) The "drain" that the girl walked into is not in the maze, it is over 100m away from the track.
4) The parents of the child thought each other were looking after the child and this oversight meant that the child wondered off. The child walked off the track and through the maze to the outside of the paddock where she played in the mud.
5) The parents (naturally), were concerned when they realised that neither of them were supervising the child. After an hour they called the Police who contacted the search and rescue.
6) One of the search and rescue team recovered the girl after she walked back into the maze.
7) Once she returned the Police provided some guidance to the parents on how the deal with this type of problem in the future I.e Provide the girl with a beep machine or a simple whistle, especially when exposing her to large areas.
