Driver named in fatal Murchison crash

Police have named the driver of vehicle who was killed as a result of single vehicle crash on State Highway 6, Clark Valley, Nelson as 46 year old Michael Sean Barclay a bushman of Richmond.

Senior Sergeant Stu Koefoed of Nelson Police said "The crash occurred at 10pm last night where the Holden V8 ute was heading South from Nelson. The vehicle had left the road crashing down a bank before colliding with a large tree. Speed was clearly a factor in this crash as the vehicle was extensively damaged with the motor being thrown 7 metres away from the vehicle and the driver having to be cut from the wreckage. A passenger from the vehicle was thrown out during the crash and raised the alarm. This person is in Nelson Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Police Serious Crash Investigators are at the scene and enquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing."
