MANUKAU CITY

On Thursday, 4 March 2010 Counties Manukau Police District will be putting its best foot forward in its District Pay Parade.

This year is the biggest yet for the Counties Manukau Police Pay Parade. There will be about 400 Police staff marching. This includes Police Officers in their smartest uniforms, Police Detectives and Police Employees.

"This is a great opportunity for Counties Manukau Police to present themselves to the community at their best. It shows unity and also gives the community a sense of reassurance. It is important for our local neighbourhoods to know we are always there for them", said District Commander, Mike Bush.

"It also illustrates to our Counties Manukau Police staff the importance of being a team. It is because of the way in which we work together that we achieve the great results we do," said Mr Bush.

The event will host many familiar faces including the Hon Judith Collins Minister of Police, Acting Commissioner of Police Rob Pope, Assistant Commissioner of Police Steve Shortland, Counties Manukau District Commander Mike Bush, Auckland City District Commander George Fraser, Waitemata District Commander Bill Searle, Mayor of Papakura Callum Penrose, Deputy Commissioner of the State Services Commission Helene Quilter and Simon Moore Crown Solicitor.

The Pay Parade will be held in Papakura. The Parade will commence at 10.00am from the corner of Great South Road and Broadway Papakura, it will conclude at 10.20am at Central Park (Opaheke Road). Speeches will then commence at 10.30am.

District Pay Parades date from the requirement for police to march to the local magistrates every fortnight in their dress uniform and pass inspection before getting their pay packet.

This will be a magnificent sight - make sure you are there!!!!
