Serious crash - State Highway 1 at Karapiro

State Highway 1 at Karapiro has been closed while police and emergency services deal with a serious crash.

Two cars are reported to have collided head on at the western intersection of Fergusson Gully Road with the state highway. One person is reported to have died at the scene.

Diversions are in place at State Highway 29 for west-bound traffic and at Karapiro Road for east-bound. Transit will be signposting the diversion route as soon as possible.

The diversion is a significant one on secondary roads and motorists are advised to allow extra time, take extra care and to seek an alternative route if at all possible.
