Crash update- SH 1, Karapiro

Police Serious Crash officers are still at the scene of the fatal crash on State Highway One at Karapiro. The road is still closed and diversions are expected to remain in place for a further two hours. Heavy vehicles in particular are advised to seek alternative routes to the north through Matamata.

It can be confirmed that the crash involved two cars colliding head on. Reports from the scene indicate that the sole male occupant of one of the cars died at the scene. The sole male occupant of the second vehicle has been taken to Waikato hospital with moderate injuries.

A full media release will be made by the Waikato police media manager when further details can be confirmed and next-of-kin have been informed.
