Fears for safety of missing kayaker

Rotorua Search and Rescue Police and Civilain Personnel are currently deployed on a search for a missing kayaker on the Kaituna River in the vicinity of Okere Falls (Kaituna River is the outlet source for Lake Rotoiti).

The kayaker was last seen at 1pm on the river and concerns are held for his safety due to the time delay as well as the difficult river conditions.

A second kayaker presumed missing on the same stretch of water has been located safe and well.

Due to the difficult terrain on both river banks a helicopter has also been deployed on the search.
