Young Couple Viciously Assaulted In West Auckland

Waitakere CIB is investigating an incident in which a young couple were taken to hospital with serious injuries received in a vicious assault at the weekend.

Police say the pair left their residential address in the West Auckland suburb of Massey at about 8.00pm on Saturday 6 March 2010. The male was discovered in Starling Park, Swanson, at 7.00am on Sunday 7 March 2010 by a couple who were walking their dog. The female was found on the doorstep of a nearby property about 15 minutes later.

Both had suffered severe injuries, clearly from an assault.

The 19 year old male is in Auckland Hospital, the 17 year old female is in Middlemore Hospital. The two victims have been moved out of intensive care but are being kept under close observation. Their condition is described as critical but stable.

Police say both victims have horrific injuries and it will be several days before investigators are able to determine the full circumstances of the incident.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the young couple in or near the vicinity of Starling Park, Swanson, between the hours of 8.00pm on Saturday 6 March 2010 and 7.00am Sunday 7 March 2010 to call them immediately.
