The ACC Board has agreed that an independent report into its Fraud Unit will go to staff for consultation.

“The report notes both positive and negative aspects of the Fraud Unit’s operations. For example, the report finds that the Fraud Unit generally follows appropriate investigative processes however there are concerns over the application of those processes”, said Dr Jan White, ACC Chief Executive.

“We have now begun consulting with staff about the report. I would expect to have made any decisions by the end of September and implemented any changes by the end of the year”, Dr White added.

Some of the recommendations impact staff in the Fraud Unit and so for reasons of fairness ACC will not be publicly discussing its response to those until such time as any decisions are finalised. Other recommendations are less sensitive and so will be discussed and progressed more openly.

“Organisations like ACC need to have a zero tolerance to fraud, in line with public expectations, while at the same time absolutely protecting the rights of the individuals concerned. Ensuring we achieve an appropriate balance of these things is an important outcome of the review”, Dr White added.

A copy of the report can be found at the ACC website.
