Police continue investigation

Auckland City Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 53 year old woman in Remuera last Friday night. ( 26 March )

The post mortem examination of the deceased was performed today. The Pathologist has reported to the Coroner that the preliminary cause of death was a stab wound to the chest.

A 24 year old Auckland woman appeared in the Auckland District Court yesterday charged with assaulting the deceased. She has been remanded in custody for a further appearance on Monday 29th of March 2010. An interim court order prohibits publishing her name.

Given that the matter is now before the court, Police cannot make further media comment about the circumstances of the alleged assault.

An interim court order also prohibits publishing the name of the deceased and her relationship to the person alleged to have assaulted her.

A further media release in relation to this investigation will be made after 4.30 p.m. tomorrow.
