Serious crash Maheno Railway Crossing - 1 km north of Maheno

Emergency Services are currently attending a serious motor vehicle crash which occurred at around 1 pm, between a car and a truck, at the level railway crossing on State Highway One, approximately 1 km north of Maheno, about 15 kms south of Oamaru.
One man, initially trapped in the car, has since been taken by rescue helicopter to Dunedin in a serious condition.
One lane has been re-opened at the crash scene for heavy motor vehicles (trucks etc) only, while light vehicles take the following detours:
Southbound traffic: State Highway One onto Woolshed Road / Round Hill Road / Gemmells Crossing Road / Kakanui Valley Road through to Maheno and back onto SH1.
Northbound traffic: the reverse route
The Police Serious Crash Unit is in attendance.
State Highway One is likely to be fully re-opened around 1800 hours (6 pm).
