Witnesses sought to vicious Avondale attack

At 9.24pm, on Wednesday 24th March 2010, police were called to attend a fight outside Avondale Physiotherapy, 63 Rosebank Road, Avondale.

Two males were seen by witnesses to repeatedly punch and kick another male unconscious.

A number of witnesses reported that they driving home when they noticed a young man being assaulted by two men on the pavement outside the

Avondale Physiotherapy. They were so concerned for the safety of the victim, such was the ferocity of the attack, that they came to the

immediate aid of the victim, trying to distract the offenders away from the beating; however they were threatened by the Polynesian male and were

unable to intervene.

The assailants were pursued by witnesses and police. They ran off into the carpark at the rear of Avondale Physiotherapy through to New North Road,
across into the library car park.

One of the offenders, a young male of Ethiopian ethnicity, has been arrested however, the other assailant, the Polynesian man, is still at large.

The victim, a young male of Indian ethnicity, is still critical ill in hospital, suffering from serious head injuries.

The outstanding offender is described as male, of Polynesian ethnicity, in his late teens, of solid build with short black hair.

Detective Sergeant Rick VEACOCK stated that "This was a sustained and vicious attack on a young local resident by two males who showed a clear disregard for the consequences of their actions. The victim is in a serious condition and injuries are still thought to be life threatening. I appeal to anyone who may have seen three teenage men together in the area of Rosebank Road around 9-9.20pm, or anyone who saw attack on the male, or anyone who may have seen the two offenders running away from the scene to contact the police on 09 820 5744 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111"
