Crash - Awakino, Waitomo

Police are currently in attendance at a serious crash on SH3 in the Awakino Gorge at Waitomo. It appears that a truck has collided with a car and the male driver of the car is feared deceased. Serious Crash and Commercial Vehicle Investigators have been called to the scene and the public are warned to consider adjusting travel arrangements if they were planning on driving between Te Kuiti and Taranaki today. Because of the driving distances for Investigating staff, the road could be closed for an extended period of time - up to 5 or 6 hours.
