Homicide enquiry in Oamaru

OAMARU

The Oamaru Police have launched a homicide enquiry, following the death of a 16 year old local youth.

The youth died near the intersection of Exe and Thames Street Oamaru at about 10.00pm on Thursday 1st April 2010.

Local Police were on the scene quickly and attempted mouth to mouth and CPR, but the victim died despite their efforts.

The scene has been cordoned off and remains under Police guard.

The Oamaru CIB are following a strong line of enquiry.

Staff from the Dunedin Police have been sent to Oamaru to assist in the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Mike RYDER of the Oamaru CIB is the officer in charge of the enquiry.

The next of kin have been informed of the death. Oamaru Police and Victim Support staff are supporting them.
