Crash - SH34 - Whakatane

19:46 - Police and emergency services are attending a two car collission at the intersection of SH34 and Park Rd in Putauaki, Whakatane. One of the vehicles veered off from the impact of the collission and crashed into a nearby powerpole acusing a power outage in the area.

One of the vehicles was alight as a result of the crash and its trapped occupant had to be cut out. The occupant of this vehicle is now confirmed deceased.

The other vehicle had several occupants - exact number unknown at this time - two of which have suffered critical injuries.

Circumstances of the crash is still unfolding to be updated later.

Traffic diversions are set up at the intersection of SH30 and SH34, and SH30 and Onepu Springs Rd. Additional signage are also being put up to warn motorists of the accident scene and to reduce their speed.
