The Sustainable Information Expo took place last month at Bayfair Shopping Centre for a second year, following its successful debut in 2009. The exhibition showcased a variety of practical ways in which Kiwi householders can help the environment and conserve some cash.

The expo, held in-centre from 25 to 27 March, presented community and organizational support services dedicated to making everyday activities more sustainable. Expo attendees garnered tips on how to increase the ‘green’ factor in all manner of tasks, from home renovation projects to their daily work commute.

Bayfair Operations Manager Steve Ellingford said with the wide range of participants and exhibits, Bayfair hoped to inspire people to take action and believe that their own sustainable contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference. “If we all contribute in some meaningful way, the collective might of each individual would add up to something substantial.”

Bayfair’s Sustainable Information Expo was proudly supported by local organisations and businesses: Tauranga City Council, Tauranga Environment Centre, Zero Waste Education, EERST, Paper4Trees, and Sustainable Business Network.

The three-day event concluded on Saturday 27 March, in time to celebrate the globally-recognized Earth Hour, a campaign organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to take the steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis.
