Media release Paengaroa fatal
At about 5:00pm on the 8th of April 2010, a 96yr old Paengaroa woman was killed when she was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross State Highway 33 near Sunset Drive, in the township of Paengaroa.
The vehicle towing a trailer and driven by a 72 year old Pukehina resident was travelling in a northerly direction on SH33 at the time of the incident.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident. The woman was attended to by members of the public until emergency services arrived. Her 72 year old son, who was at the scene at the time of the incident, was comforted by members of the public, ambulance staff and victim support.
The driver of the vehicle and his passenger were shaken but uninjured in the crash.
The State Highway was close for approximately two and a half while Police carried out a scene investigation.
Several witnesses were spoken to at the scene, but Police would also like to hear from anyone who saw the incident and were not spoken to by Police at the time, or could not stop, or left the scene before the arrival of the Police.
