Serious Injury Motor Vehicle Crash: Truck v Predestrian
A 24-year old Maramarua man is in a critical condition after he was struck by a petrol tanker earlier this evening.
At about 10.50pm on Friday 16th April 2010, the man was seen to drive his car out of a ditch on State Highway 2, Maramarua.
The man stopped and got out of his car stepping out onto the middle of the road. He was then struck by the southbound tanker.
The man was airlifted by Air Ambulance to Middlemore Hospital with serious head and chest injuries.
Police are in the early stages of investigating the circumstances around the crash in which alcohol appears to be a factor.
The tanker driver is uninjured and assisting Police with enquiries.
