Focus On Junior Sportspeople This Year
A decision to extend the nomination period for the Infracon Sportsperson of the Year Award has paid off.
Among the nominations for the six categories there is now a strong emphasis on the district’s junior athletes with 31 of the 43 total vying for the Junior Sportsperson of the Year, reports Sport Tararua co- ordinator Natarsha Nikora.
This is the eleventh year of the awards with 2010 having the highest number of nominations received to date. All were of a high calibre for what was a “relatively small district,” Natarsha said.
She decided to extend the nominations by a week to allow more time for entries.
The junior contenders cover a diverse range of sports, representing swimming, basketball, rugby, MuayThai boxing and paralympic athletics along with several rugby league players, so expect guest speaker Reuben Wiki to be a star attraction.
Tickets for the May 21 event are $40 available from the district’s service centres. The venue is the Eketahuna Community Centre.
