Robinson strong in long distance final.

Tania Robinson (Counties Manukau), once again confirmed that she is the most consistent New Zealand orienteer on the world stage, when she placed 23rd in the long distance final at the World Orienteering Championships in Ukraine.

The race had a dramatic result with two competitors sharing the gold medal after they finished with identical times.  Both of the woman were from Finland, one being Heli Jukkola who visited New Zealand over summer for training with partner Tero Fohr.

In the men's race, Canterbury's Chris Forne finished off the pace in 31st place after battling with his ankle injury.  The race was won by a huge margin of around 4 minutes by Switzerlands Matthias Merz.  The race however did not feature two of the race favourites, with many competitors obtaining food poisoning amongst other things.

Friday is a rest day, with Saturday and Sunday featuring the relay and sprint final.
