Assault with intent to rob/attempted robbery

WELLINGTON

Wellington Police are investigating the attempted robbery of a taxi driver that occurred at approximately 2.50am on Sunday 25 April 2010 in Woodland Road, Johnsonville, Wellington.

At approximately 2.45am the taxi driver was directed to transport two males from the Johnsonville Road taxi rank. The taxi driver picked up the two males and transported them to Woodland Road.

Once they arrived in Woodland Road, the taxi driver was assaulted whilst both males attempted to steal the taxi driver's money.

During the incident the taxi driver was unable to control the motor vehicle, which led to the vehicle crashing into a house.

The offenders were last seen running towards Frankmoore Avenue.

The offenders are both described as males, approximately 180 cm (5 foot 11 inches) tall, aged about 20 years and Maori or Polynesian.

The offenders were both wearing black coloured clothing.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or saw any suspicious activity in the area.

The driver sustained injuries that were treated by ambulance staff.

Police would like to hear from anyone who has any information that may assist in identifying the two males.
