Stevin’s family and close friends are devastated by this crash.

Our first message is to the families of Stevin’s fellow air crew – Hayden Madsen, Ben Carson and Dan Gregory - our hearts go out to you at this tragic time and we feel your loss.

Stevin has received serious chest, spinal, and leg injuries in the crash. These injuries will require treatment and rehabilitation over a long period of time, but we are greatly encouraged by the progress already made so far.

The family is just so grateful that Stevin is still with us today and we are confident that he will make a full recovery in time. This is a very challenging time, but we are looking forward with confidence.

The family would like to express their grateful thanks to the following:

The skill, professionalism and courage of those who located and airlifted Stevin out of the crash site. This especially includes the crew of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and his fellow airmen who initially responded at the crash scene.

The staff of the Wellington Public Hospital, particularly the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. Their care for Stevin has been outstanding.

Stevin’s colleagues in the New Zealand Defence Force who have overwhelmed us with their practical support, encouragement, and well wishes for Stevin’s recovery.

To the ‘Air Force Family’ for their support and consideration, both to Stevin and ourselves who have gathered at the Hospital to support him.

And finally, to the many people who have sent messages of support to the family at this difficult time. Your messages and thoughts have deeply touched Stevin’s family.
