Stock on road - Puhoi

SH1 north of Puhoi has been partially closed as emergency services deal with a stock truck crash which is blocking lanes.

A truck and trailer unit carrying cattle rolled just after 6.00am effectively closing the highway at Schedewys Hill.

Northbound traffic is being diverted at Silverdale onto SH16. One southbound lane has been opened through the scene however there is congestion and motorists can expect delays. The road may have to be completely closed for a short time when the truck is ready to be righted and removed.

The scene is not expected to be cleared for at least two hours. The situation is problematical due to the numbers of injured stock whose welfare must be considered. A vet is at the scene and several beasts have had to be destroyed.

The driver of the truck is reported to be uninjured.
