Acting Senior Sergeant Brent Cook of Greymouth Police stated that Police had concerns for the safety of a 40 year old French Canadian Tramper in the Copland Pass area south of Fox Glacier after he ignored warnings from Department of Conservation staff about bad weather in the area earlier last week.

The tramper had not been heard from since this time. Enquires were made and a Search and Rescue team was dispatched to check huts and fly over the area.

Late this afternoon the body of male was located half way between Douglas Rock Hut and the Copland pass.

The body of the male has been taken to the Hokitika Mortuary and is yet to be formally identified.

Once identity has been confirmed and any next of kin advised further information will be released.
