Chris Forne (PAPO) placed 28th in the sprint distance final at the World Orienteering Championships.  Joining Forne in the final was Ross Morrison (Hawkes Bay) who ended up placing 42nd out of the field of 45.

Winning the gold medal was Thierry Gueorgiou (France) who won by under one second over Matthias Merz (Switzerland).  Both Merz and Gueorgiou had already won an individual gold medal during the championships, with Merz winning with long distance and Gueorgiou the middle distance.

Tania Robinson unfortunately did not qualify for the sprint distance final in the womans race.  Defending World Champion Hanny Allston (Australia) could not defend her title, ending up in 9th place.  Winning her second individual gold medal of the week, Simone Niggli (Switzerland) took the victory by just under 26 seconds over Minna Kauppi (Finland).
