DANNEVIRKE

Police in Dannevirke are appealing for public help following a sexual assault on a teenage girl in the town last night (Friday, 7 May).

The incident happened around 7pm as the 16-year-old girl, was walking south on Guy Street Dannevirke in the vicinity of Hartgill Crescent.

She was approached by two men wearing hooded coats that were in a silver coloured Japanese car similar to a Subaru. They tried to engage her in conversation but she walked on.

The passenger in the car alighted and grabbed the girl from behind dragging her into the front passenger's seat of this car.

The driver then sped off heading out of town on Guy Street to Ruahine Street and onto Umutaoroa Road and the outskirts of the northern Dannevirke urban area.

The two men have then bundled the girl out of the car and over a wire fence into a nearby paddock where she was sexually assaulted.

They then left her in the paddock and the girl walked from there to a friends who at which point the Police were called.

The police would like information from the public who may have seen this girl walking on Guy Street, and any sightings of the vehicle in question, both in Guy Street and Umutaoroa Road where it was parked on the grass verge opposite number 58 for some time.

The car is described as silver in colour, possibly a Subaru, four-door sedan, the back number plate is on an angle and there is a dent in the rear bumper.

The two occupants are described as follows:

Driver - Maori man, big build and tall, about 6ft, aged around 25 years. He was wearing a singlet and track pants and had his head and face covered. He had a spiral tattoo on right upper arm.

Passenger - Maori man, small build, blue-coloured eyes with face covered.
