Intersection of Ash and Rosebank Rd-Avondale

At about 6.30am this morning, Police and Ambulance were called to a crash at the intersection of Ash St and Rosebank Rd in the Avondale area involving a bicycle and a vehicle.

It appears the bicycle was heading west and has run into the side of the vehicle as its crossing the intersection heading east along Rosebank Rd.

The cyclist has sustained life-threatening injuries and is being attended to by ambulance. Description of his injuries is not known at this time. He will be transported to Auckland hospital shortly.

The intersection is partially closed with very minimal traffic being let through and some restrictions on turning points. Motorists are advised to stay away from this area if at all possible to avoid delays in their travels. Its expected that this restriction will be in place for another hour and a half.

Police are working to have the intersection fully working again as soon as possible.
