WELLINGTON CITY

Wellington Police have cordoned off several roads near Parliament due to a suspicious package threat.

The cordons are a safety precaution while Police carry out their work inside Parliament. Motorists and members of the public are asked to keep away to avoid congestion and traffic jams. The area could be closed off for some time.

Molesworth Street between Lambton Quay and Hill Street, and an area of Hill Street extending to Selwyn Street are affected by the cordons.

Police staff are currently equipping themselves to search the building for any items related to the threat.
