Car hits children

At approximately 5.05 pm last night a vehicle on Linwood Avenue, Christchurch lost control as it headed east from Chelsea Street.

The vehicle was seen to lose traction on the wet road and slide from side to side before mounting the footpath on the corner of Linwood Avenue and Jollie Street.

Tragically a mother and her two children were walking on the footpath at the time.

A four year old boy is deceased and his six year old brother is currently in a serious but stable condition in Christchurch Hospital.

The 18 year old male driver of the car is being spoken to by Police.
