Wellington Police urge motorists to take it easy on the roads this coming Queen's Birthday Weekend
Wellington Police are urging motorists to take it easy on the roads this coming Queen's Birthday Weekend.
Road Policing Manager Inspector Peter Baird says given what we know from previous long weekends, motorists can and will face delays when leaving the capital, en route to their destination and again upon their return at the end of the holiday period.
Peter Baird says, "It's really important that people plan their journeys and make sure they take regular breaks, share the driving where possible, watch following distances and look out for early signs of driver fatigue."
"Your journey starts the moment you leave home, not when you reach your final destination. Police want all motorists to reach their destinations safely this long weekend."
Peter Baird says extra Police will be out and about on the roads and anyone breaking the law can expect to get caught.
"All too often, the difference between a minor collision and a fatal crash is speed and an impatient driver."
The official holiday period for Queen's Birthday for 2010 begins at 4pm on Friday 4 June and ends at 6am on Tuesday 8 June.
