Flooding in BOP

Police, Fire and Council workers are dealing with widespread flooding down the East coast of the Bay of Plenty, from Ohope to Whakatane.

SH2 is impassable in places due to surface water, slips and debris. Contractors are out right along the coast and some sections of road have been cleared by locals using tractors. Other sections are only passable by 4X4 vehicle. Several people have had to be rescued from vehicles stalled in floodwater.

Motorists are advised to avoid all but essential travel in the area and to consult AA Roadwatch for updates before such travel.
