Motueka Police are currently investigating an incident at the local Back Packers.

At about 12.45 am yesterday, an occupant has entered one of the bedrooms in the back packers.

The person has allegedly attacked a tourist from the Czech Republic with a knife.

The tourist fought his assailant off and suffered a minor wound to his leg. He was treated by a local doctor.

He was somewhat shaken by the incident.

Enquiries indicate the attack was unprovoked.

An American tourist in the same room witnessed the incident but was unharmed.

A 38 year old New Zealand man has been arrested and charged with wounding.

He appears in the Nelson District Court on the morning of 3 June 2010.
