Lower Hutt Police have arrested a Wainuiomata man who has allegedly been preying on the elderly.

It's alleged he befriended elderly women and invited himself into their homes, stealing their bank cards while they were out of the room. The cards have then been used to get cash from money machines.

Wainuiomata Community Constable Tony Shearer says,"We believe this man has been preying on the elderly in the Lower Hutt and Taranaki areas, gaining their confidence to obtain their cards and PIN numbers."

The man has been charged with eight counts of using a document to gain a pecuniary advantage.

Constable Shearer is keen to hear from anyone who may have had a similar experience. Anyone with information should phone Police on (04) 381 2000.
