WELLINGTON

At 8.30 am yesterday morning Police arrested and charged a sixty year old male at his home address in central Wellington. A search warrant was executed for the Class B Controlled Drug Morphine.

Located at the address were 817 morphine sulphate tablets. These 817 tablets have a street value of $48170.00.

The Male was arrested and charged with:

  • Conspiracy to Supply Morphine
  • Supplying Morphine X 2
  • Possession of Morphine for Supply.

He appears in the Wellington District Court this afternoon.

Detective Sergeant Warwick McKee from the Wellington Metro CIB states

" We have really focused on targeting drug dealers supplying Morphine sulphate tablets in the Wellington District.

We had identified an increase in hospital admissions and deaths directly relating to overdoses by drug users converting these morphine sulphate tablets into Heroin.

We have subsequently actively targeted morphine sulphate tablet dealers and over the last six months have arrested and charged six different offenders with supplying these controlled drugs.

We have seized in excess of 1350 morphine sulphate tablets from these offenders and this has made a significant impact on the illicit market for these pills ".
