Council to review Performing Arts and Conference Centre options

Following lengthy discussions at today’s meeting, Nelson City Council has decided not to seek public feedback on a short list of sites for a combined Performing Arts and Conference Centre at this time.

During the meeting several Councillors expressed the wish to explore the issue of proceeding with a combined Performing Arts and Conference Centre or instead opting for a stand alone Conference Centre or a stand alone performance venue or “Town Hall”.

Many different views were expressed so Council resolved to set aside time to discuss the matter in more depth at a workshop to be held on 15 June.

Mayor Kerry Marshall says “While there is some frustration at the time this has taken to date, Council remains committed to making a good decision on this important facility that may potentially serve our community for generations to come.”
