Cambridge BMX rider Marc Willers continues his comeback from surgery to enjoy two podium finishes in the latest round of the American Championships in California.

Willers finished third in the main on both days of the latest round of the ABA Summer Nationals at Roseville near Sacramento.

The Beijing Olympian was out for several months after shoulder reconstruction surgery and returned to racing two months ago.

After finishing fourth at the World Supercross in Copenhagen last month, Willers returned to California where some of the BikeNZ team have been based as they prepare for next month’s world championships.

Willers rode strongly to finish third on the opening day won by American champion Randy Stumphauser from Australia’s world junior champion Sam Willoughby, and on the second day finished behind world champion Maris Strombergs and Willougby after another strong performance.

“It feels really good to be back in the mix and back on form,” Willers said. “That’s four from four mains and three from four podiums in the last seven weeks.”
