Tauranga murder accused named – Police seek movements

Tauranga Police are seeking the public's help to trace the movements of the man accused of murdering Ravneet Sangha in her Tauranga home last weekend. The body of Mrs Sangha's two year old daughter was also found in the home last weekend and further charges may be laid.

The accused can now be named as 23 year old Deepak Nagpal of 428 Ngatai Road Tauranga following the lifting of name suppression during his court appearance in the Tauranga District Court today.

Nagpal first appeared in the Counties Manukau District Court on the murder charge on Monday 7 June and was remanded in custody to appear in the Tauranga District Court today. He was granted name suppression during his first court appearance, however, that has now lapsed and the suppression was not extended by the Tauranga District Court.

Western Bay of Plenty Area Commander, Inspector Mike Clement, says Police would like to hear from any member of the public who know Nagpal personally or who may have information or sightings of him in Tauranga or Auckland between Tuesday 1 June and late on Sunday 6 June.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have information relating to Mr Nagpal's movements last week.

"We believe that he has travelled between Auckland and Tauranga and back to Auckland during this time, and we would like to hear from anyone who may have sighted him, or was with him, at any point last week or over the weekend.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who has information relating to any sightings of anyone, or activity, at the address at 428 Ngatai Rd, Ötümoetai, Tauranga on Friday 4 June and Saturday 5 June."

A photo of Nagpal is attached. He is a 23 year old male of Indian descent. He is of slight build and is approximately 165 cm’s tall. He wears glasses and has short, dark hair.
