Burglar gets knock to head trying to break into shop

An attempted burglar got more then he bargained for recently when he was hit in the head by a rock he was using to break into a central Wellington shop.

Detective Sergeant Mark Scott says two offenders were caught on camera trying to smash a window of Empire Skate, in Herd Street, Chaffers Marina on the 30th of May around 5:30am.

"We can see from the CCTV images, one of the offenders is seen throwing a rock at the window which then comes down and hits him on the head, at which point they flee the scene."

DS Scott says we hope the rock may have knocked some sense into this offender and will make him think twice before doing such a thing again.

"Someone may have seen something around this time. We're urging anyone with information to phone the Wellington Police immediately on (04) 381 2000."
