COROMANDEL

At approximately 10.30am on Sunday the 13th June 2010, the police were called to a residential address in Te Kouma, Coromandel where a male was using a sword and other weapons to inflict injuries on himself.

The 46 year old male refused to comply with the police demands to put the weapons down to enable medical treatment to be provided to him and a taser was used for the safety of the police and medical staff.

The male was taken to Thames hospital for further medical treatment. The self inflicted injuries are not considered life threatening.

The male has been arrested and as the matter will be before the courts, no further comments will be made in relation to the incident.

In accordance with Police policy, the use of the taser will be reviewed.
