Australian tourist named

At about 1.30 pm on the 12th of June 2010, a 38 year old Australian male tourist died as a result of a fall on Franz Joseph Glacier South Westland.

His identity has been confirmed as John PARISIS from New South Wales, Australia

He was taking part in a guided walk on the Glacier. He has slipped over while negotiating a path along the bottom of a crevasse

A rescue operation was carried out by the glacier guide company and he was removed from the crevasse.

Police are investigating the matter on behalf of the Coroner.
