SOUTHLAND

Police and the Fire Service are attending a truck crash that occurred at about 4.15 am this morning on State Highway 98 (Lorne Dacre Road), near Kennington Roslyn Bush Road, North East of Invercargill.

It appears that the truck, carrying a load of timber, has collided with a lamp post before rolling on its side, bring power-lines down on to the road. The truck driver, initially trapped, was pulled free from the truck by passers-by, and appears to have suffered only minor injuries.

A crane has been called in to right the truck, and urgent work will be needed to secure the power lines and restore power before the road can be re-opened. The crash scene is likely to be closed for a several of hours and a media update will follow once a time-frame can be better determined.

Detours:
Traffic is being detoured along Mill Road North.
Kennington Roslyn Bush Road near the intersection with SH98 is also closed.
