SHANNON

Police are trying to trace witnesses to a fatal crash in Shannon as they are concerned that they may need some emotional support.

64-year-old Hilary Drawneek, known to friends and family as Ruth, was killed on 17 June when the Toyota she was driving left SH57 near Shannon and caught fire.

Enquiries by police suggest that there were a number of people who saw the crash or the immediate aftermath and stopped to try to help before continuing on their journeys.

Sergeant John May of Foxton Police said: "This was a particularly traumatic scene even for the emergency staff who deal regularly with this type of incident. We need to locate these witnesses as part of the crash investigation but there welfare is also very important to us and it might be that they would benefit from some assistance from Victim Support."

Anyone who was at the crash scene on 17 June who hasn't yet spoken to police is asked to make contact so details of what they saw can be obtained and any welfare issues can be addressed.

The number for witnesses to contact is Foxton Police on 06 363 8084.
